As the excitement for Season 13 peaks, Blizzard appears to have major plans for Overwatch 2 as 2024 draws to a close. One of the most thrilling reveals came from the recently released Season 13 trailer, offering a brief glimpse of the game's upcoming hero.
Though the sneak peek was brief, players quickly began speculating about the identity of this new hero, with some theories backed by solid reasoning. Let’s dive into the details and explore what we know so far about the new hero set to arrive in Overwatch 2 during Season 14.
Blizzard Teases New Tank Hero "Phreak" Coming In Season 14
In the Overwatch 2 Season 13 launch trailer, just after the announcements for the new Mythic Skin and Halloween Terror event, there's a brief but intriguing scene. It shows a damaged Oasis University spawn room, followed by text on the wall that reads "Fight Back" and "Phreaks." Shortly after, a Scottish voice declares, "It's looking like a revolution."
The Season 14 hero was likely teased at the end of the S13 trailer!

Though the teaser was vague, fans quickly dissected it, linking it to an old image of a mohawked character named "Phreak," originally designed for the scrapped MMO Titan before it evolved into the first Overwatch. Many players now believe that "Phreak" refers to a gang faction in Overwatch 2. This theory gained traction because the game's original launch trailer featured a trio of characters, one of whom wore a leather jacket with "Phreaks" written on the back.
This suggests that the new hero could either be named "Phreak" or belong to a group called the "Phreaks." The names of new heroes are typically withheld until the last minute, much like how Juno was known as "Space Ranger" for a time. However, since much of this information is based on older concepts, there’s a chance the hero’s name or details could change.
For now, the prevailing theory is that the new hero will likely be a tank since the DPS roster is complete and the Support role recently got Juno. Regardless, the hero will almost certainly be tied to the Phreaks, whether by name or affiliation.
In the meantime, there’s plenty of content to enjoy throughout Season 13. As the season comes to a close, we can expect more news about this new hero, including a release trailer and possibly an early play weekend, similar to what we saw with Juno.
