Since its release, Season 13 of Overwatch 2 has been riding high on waves of excitement, thanks to an array of new content, including mythic skins, cosmetics, and a fresh battle pass.
The Halloween festivities have only added to the buzz, especially with the popular Junkenstein’s Laboratory game mode. In response to the mode's success, the developers have granted players extra time to enjoy it before the season wraps up.
Overwatch 2 Extends Junkenstein's Lab Arcade Mode for an Extra Week of Play
As shared in a post on X by the official Overwatch 2 account, “The mad Dr. Junkenstein is thrilled by the success of his mutations and now looks to find even more volunteers for his experiments. The Junkenstein’s Laboratory mode has been extended for an additional week, with the lab closing its doors on November 11.”

This extension shows that the developers have recognized the popularity of Junkenstein’s Laboratory and want to give players a bit more time to enjoy it. While both we and fans appreciate this extra playtime, it’s clear the ultimate wish for many is to see the mode become a permanent fixture in Overwatch 2.
Fans are eager for a permanent addition because Junkenstein’s Laboratory brings a fresh twist to the Overwatch 2 formula. Players can select upgradeable perks before each round, leading to a unique experience every time they experiment with different perk combinations. The developers have even fine-tuned the mode with a recent patch, balancing certain character abilities for a smoother gameplay experience.
We recognize, however, that making this mode permanent might be a tall order for the developers, who are focused on upcoming 5v5 vs. 6v6 tests and the launch of Season 14. Still, adding Junkenstein’s Laboratory as a recurring arcade mode, perhaps monthly, could be a solid middle ground instead of limiting it to an annual event.
For now, all we can do is hope Blizzard sees the potential benefits of keeping this mode more accessible. Enjoy the final week of Junkenstein’s Laboratory mode until November 11, and here’s hoping it returns to Overwatch 2 sooner rather than later!
