The player base of the sci-fi open-world exploration game No Man's Sky has had quite a tumultuous history since the game was released in August 2016. Developer Hello Games, spearheaded by Sean Murray, has had to overcome frustrated players due to the game's difficult launch, which was marred by bugs and glitches, but the game's journey to its current state was incredible to follow.
Not only has the studio promised constant support in patching the game through subsequent updates, but it has also provided new gameplay content to retain its player base over the last eight years. In addition to new features like cross-platform play (crossplay) and cross-progression, now available to players across multiple platforms, the game has crossed a new milestone that took the developer eight years to attain.
Nominations for the annual Steam Awards have gone live, and the sci-fi open-world exploration game received a nomination in the "Labor of Love" category for the developer's continuous effort "to nurture and support their creation." Alongside this nomination, the game reached a monumental milestone, earning the "Very Positive" badge on its Steam page based on 248,330 lifetime reviews, which studio founder Sean Murray reacted to on social media.
Murray was overwhelmed with this recent milestone, thanking the No Man's Sky players for their continuous support, stating that they "have no idea what this means to us." Since the game's release, it's currently available on Mac and PC via GOG.com and Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, and has recently been optimized for the PlayStation 5 Pro consoles.
No Man's Sky is also discounted by 60% for a limited time on Steam as part of the ongoing Steam Autumn Sale, in which PC players can access "all major updates since launch," including the recently released Worlds Part I update. The developer had recently announced that all 2024 released expeditions will be receiving reruns "over two-week intervals from Thanksgiving weekend through December and January 2025," like the Omega and The Cursed expeditions, as they continue offering support for the game and work on their forthcoming title, Light No Fire, available to Wishlist on Steam.
