Putting some of Nick's most iconic characters front and centre in a fighting game has been done before, but never by a developer with the status of Ludosity, creators of Slap City, a Smash-like title that's very well-liked within the community, which is why Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has taken the FGC by storm.
With every preview and gameplay showcase, it seems Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will borrow heavily from the Smash franchise, with movement mechanics and overall combo structure functioning in the same way.
The game, which is available on virtually every console on the market, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, will undoubtedly attract a huge crowd who are interested in seeing their childhood icons duke it out.
This also raises another question -- who is the best character in the game?
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl character tier list - How it works
These tier lists will be divided into four levels, which we will describe below:
- S-Tier: The best characters in the game, easy to pick up and great return of investment.
- A-Tier: Characters that are remarkable and very good, useful for whatever situation you face.
- B-Tier: Good characters who lack in certain key areas to make them top-tier
- C-Tier: So-so characters, there are probably better options for your playstyle.
- D-Tier: Patrick Star.
This comes without saying, but it's worth pointing out nonetheless, tier lists are not an exact science, especially in a fighting game that has a developing meta. This tier list is based on our own experience as well as tier lists by pros such as Juan "Hungrybox" Debiedma, Adam "Armada" Lindgren, and William "Leffen" Hjelte.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl character tier list
Without further ado, let's get started.
S-Tier
- Oblina
- Catdog
The two characters have been rising the ranks due to their simplicity and how rewarding they can feel. Oblina's got some incredible setups, with Armada pushing the boundaries of the character better than anyone.
Catdog also has some easy kill confirms that can net you stocks at low percentages.
A-Tier
- Sandy
- Leonardo
- Korra
- April O'Neill
- Lucy Loud
- Invader Zim
- Powdered Toastman
- Aang
The A-tier is packed with some fan-favourite characters, with Sandy, Leonardo, and April being the clear standouts for us.
Players have already figured out a very efficient infinite for Sandy (one's that being patched out) and her hitboxes look like they cover a lot of ground, similarly to Leonardo, who can zone you out with amazing aerials. As for April, she's got a lot of coverage and potential mixups that can be hard to deal with.
B-Tier
- Danny Phantom
- Ren & Stimpy
- Lincoln Loud
- Michelangelo
- Spongebob
- Helga
A lot of these have the potential to become top-tier with a few tweaks or gameplay optimisation by players. Danny Phantom has a lot of combo potential but most of his moves seem slow for example.
Spongebob is designed like a glass cannon, with incredible loops and infinites if the opponent doesn't DI properly, but can be just as easily juggled and knocked out.
C-Tier
- Toph
- Reptar
- Nigel Thornberry
It may be slow frame data, lack of easy to execute setups or terrible hitboxes, these three are noticeably worse than almost the rest of the cast, all but one...
D-Tier
- Patrick Star
Unanimously, the worst character in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, rather fitting considering his name. Bad moveset, slow frame data, terrible combos, simply put, Patrick mains are playing on hard mode.
