If you're looking to hop online and prove yourself against friends, the good news is NBA 2K24 has plenty of options available. For some players, that even includes the option of crossplay to compete and team-up between platforms.
Whether you're looking to dive into Play Now for a quick game or looking to compete elsewhere, we'll go over the basics so you know what to expect. We'll also detail how to turn off crossplay in NBA 2K24 in case you don't want that happening.
How to Play NBA 2K24 With Friends
There are several ways to play NBA 2K24 with friends, but the easiest way is in Play Now. You can always grab an extra controller for local play, but starting a quick NBA 2K24 game with friends online is just as simple. Enter Quick Play, not Play Now Online, and press the Right Stick (R3 on PS4 & PS5) to invite someone to play.
Most of the other NBA 2K24 game modes include online options as well, particularly MyCAREER which is largely about playing online against and alongside other players. MyNBA also has the option of creating an online league, or you can collect cards to build a dream lineup in MyTEAM and test them against other players online.
If you want to play WNBA games online, you can do that from WNBA Quick Play in the same way mentioned above. You can also setup a MyWNBA league online or tackle The W for an online and offline career mode experience.
How does NBA 2K24 crossplay work?
If you're hoping to play against someone on a different platform, NBA 2K24 crossplay is only available for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players. Due to the key game features gated to those new gen versions of the title, other platforms do not have any crossplay options.
NBA 2K24 crossplay is enabled by default, and if you want to turn it off you'll need to do so in your system settings. If you're on Xbox Series X|S, go to Settings, then Online Safety & Family, then Privacy & Online Safety, then Xbox Privacy, then View Details & Customize, then Connection & Multiplayer, and change 'You can join cross-network play' to 'Block'.
If you're on PS5, you'll need to go to the console's main menu and select Features, then Settings, then Crossplay and switch it to 'off'. Some players may prefer this for privacy reasons, but the upside to NBA 2K24 crossplay tends to be slower wait times while matchmaking.
