New changes are coming to MultiVersus upon its full release for console and PC in May 2024. After nearly a year on hiatus, developer Player First Games switched the lights on, announcing a plethora of new game details, balance changes and adjustments, and, of course, the official release date.
One area that received an overhaul is the economy system, in which the developer revamped its currency system as new currencies were being introduced, like the Prestige currency. This guide will explain everything about the Prestige currency, including how players can get and use this currency type in MultiVersus.
What Is The Prestige Currency In MultiVersus?
Developer Player First Games confirmed that they have revamped the game's economy, which has seen sweeping changes to its currency system. Previously, players could acquire multiple forms of currency, including Gleamium, Battle Pass, and Character tokens, which the latter two have been discontinued.
New and revised currencies will be available at launch, with Gleamium being the only original currency in MultiVersus. Prestige currency is one of the new currencies to be added to the game's currency system, which the developer outlined in their latest Developer Series post.
Prestige currency is one of the rare forms of in-game currency that players can obtain using one available method, which we've explained below. According to the infographic supplied, Prestige currency is connected to the game's cosmetic system in terms of acquisition and usage. Players are awarded Prestige currency for obtaining cosmetics, which is used to unlock more cosmetics.
How To Get And Use The Prestige Currency In MultiVersus?
As mentioned earlier, Prestige currency is one of the few new currencies introduced in MultiVersus at launch on 28th May 2024. Alongside Gleamium, Fighter, and Perk currencies, Prestige currency is awarded to players for acquiring various cosmetic items "for their favorite fighters."
In their recent Developer Series post on the in-game rewards, Battle Pass, and Economy changes, the developer explained precisely how players can get Prestige currency. According to this aforementioned post, Prestige currency is earned for "each cosmetic item" that is acquired, which, as such, will be awarded "its own Prestige currency value based on type and rarity."
In simpler terms, every time players acquire a cosmetic item for an owned character, they'll earn Prestige currency based on the item's type and rarity. Eventually, once players have accrued enough Prestige currency, they can use this currency to unlock or get various items in-game.
The developer also highlighted this aspect in the same Developer Series post, stating that players can use this Prestige currency to acquire Prestige cosmetics. Prestige cosmetics are the " rarest cosmetics" available in-game and can only be unlocked using their corresponding currency, but there is no clear indication of where they can be unlocked.
Furthermore, it was stated that returning players specifically will gain "an allotment of Prestige currency based on the number of cosmetics" they've obtained during the game's Open Beta. This will be given to them as rewards "for all previous purchases and unlocks" when MultiVersus launches on 28th May 2024 for console and PC.
