Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meladandri has told The Wrap that his studio isn't currently in talks about potentially making a The Legend of Zelda movie.
In the interview, Meladandri states:
"I don't know where that came from. I mean, I can understand how people would surmise all sorts of things because obviously, we've had a great experience working together. My relationship with Nintendo now includes being on their board of directors, so I can understand how people can surmise these things. But in terms of the specifics, that was just something that I've been hearing lots of reports. This is just about what's next between Nintendo and Illumination."
This report comes off the heels of a report that states that they are not only working on The Legend of Zelda movie but are also working on Luigi's Mansion, Donkey Kong, and a sequel to the highly successful Super Mario Bros movie. There's the potential here that Meladandri is simply lying in order to throw people off the correct trail, and a The Legend of Zelda movie announcement is coming later this year, potentially after the writers strike. Recently, Chris Pratt has spoken about how the WGA Strike has affected the future of the Mario Franchise, stating that:
"I really do support the WGA and our writers. When the negotiations have been completed, and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it'll be time to start talking about what's next for that"
