Second Dinner, the studio behind the successful card battler Marvel Snap, announced that the California-based studio had landed a multi-million dollar investment. This funding, which Griffin Gaming Partners have headed up, will see the studio using the funds to continue the ongoing development of the popular card battler and other projects currently in the pipeline.
This news comes months following the announcement of their publisher, Nuverse’s closure by parent company ByteDance, in which Second Dinner stated that the snapping will “continue to operate and flourish in the future!” With this investment into the developer, Second Dinner will retain its status as an independent studio, as stated in its press release, with Griffin Gaming Partners and NetEase as “minority investors.”
According to the press release published by BusinessWire, Second Dinner’s Chief Operating Officer Matt Wyble expressed his excitement about the investment made by Griffin Gaming Partners. “We’re grateful to have Griffin Gaming Partners on our team! From our first conversation, it was clear they love [Marvel] Snap and respect our need to be free to make the best games we can.”
Wyble added how this investment will help the studio accomplish its goals for Marvel Snap and the studio. “This investment will help us make more awesome stuff! We’ll use it to develop and commercialize new titles, incubate original IP, write better press releases, and ensure that Marvel Snap continues to grow globally.”
Second Dinner recently released their 2024 Roadmap for Marvel Snap, highlighting some key features that will be arriving soon in-game. This includes more in-game events, more Infinity Splits, improvements to the Albums feature (which launched with the Hellfire Gala season in December 2023), and plenty more.
One of the more interesting mentions in the 2024 Roadmap is the Clans feature and in-game graveyard, which the latter allows players to view cards that were destroyed, discarded, and more during a match. Players have expressed concerns about how the UI will be designed for mobile players, which PC players may have an advantage as they have been using various in-game overlays to achieve this.
Marvel Snap is currently available to download for free on mobile devices via the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. It’s also available on PC via Steam as the Planet Hulk Season is currently ongoing.
