A new competitive season of League of Legends has begun. Players worldwide are preparing to launch themselves back into Summoner's Rift after testing new dragons and items that arrived in the preseason.
Welcoming the new year into their flagship game, Riot also recently announced a menu of brand-new features arriving in the game over the next few months, including Zeri, a new champion from Zaun, who is now available for testing inside the PBE.
So, if you've been away from the Rift for a long time or just want to learn more about the latest champion joining League's roster, you've come to the right place.
Introducing Zeri, the Spark of Zaun
Zeri is the first champion to join League of Legends since the arrival of Vex in September 2021. It is also the first new addition focused on the AD carry role since Samira in 2020.
Also known by her nickname "the Spark of Zaun," Zeri is a champion who will harness the power of her electrical magic and extreme speed to outrun all her enemies, leaving an electrifying disaster in her wake.
According to the official lore by Riot Games, Zeri is a stubborn and lively young woman who was born into a working-class family in the bowels of the dark nation of Zaun. It was there that Zeri worked alone in the resistance against the chemical barons of Zaun, who were destroying her homeland, as we discovered in the animated series "Arcane" and events within Legends of Runeterra.
However, Zeri's electric charm was not enough to stop them, although her efforts inspired all those working for the chemical barons.
Zeri's abilities and their effects
Below, we have detailed all of Zeri's abilities.
Passive - Living Battery
Zeri gains Move Speed whenever she receives a shield. When she damages an enemy shield, she absorbs its energy, shielding herself.
Q - Burst Fire
Passive: Zeri's basic attack deals magic damage, scales with AP, and is treated as an ability. Moving and casting Burst Fire stores up energy in Zeri's Sparkpack. Her next basic attack will slow and deal bonus damage when fully charged.
Active: Burst Fire shoots a burst of 7 rounds that deal physical damage to the first enemy hit. Burst Fire scales with AD and is treated as an attack, with the first round applying on-hit effects. Its cooldown matches Zeri's basic attack timer.
W - Ultrashock Laser
Zeri fires an electric pulse that slows and damages the first enemy hit. If the pulse hits a wall, it fires a long-range laser from the point of impact.
E - Spark Surge
Zeri dashes a short distance and energizes her subsequent three casts of Burst Fire, causing them to pierce through enemies. After that, she will vault over or grind along any terrain she dashes into, depending on the angle. Hitting a champion with an attack or ability reduces Spark Surge's cooldown.
R - Lightning Crash
Zeri discharges a nova of electricity, damaging nearby enemies, and overcharges herself for a moderate duration. While overcharged, Zeri gains increased damage, Attack Speed, and Move Speed. Attacking enemy champions refreshes the overcharge duration and adds another stack of Move Speed.
While overcharged, Burst Fire's damage concentrates into a faster triple shot that chains lightning between enemies.
Zeri's release date and skin
Zeri's arrival to the Rift will be accompanied by a new skin as part of the Withered Rose theme, along with a few others revealed for Akshan, Janna, and Elise.
The Withered Rose Zeri skin will be available for 1,350 RP, so be prepared if you want to look like the main Zeri since the beta.
Last but not least, the Spark of Zaun is scheduled for release this 19th January with League's patch 12.2, so you can now test her entire arsenal within the PBE.
