On 18th September, publisher Rockstar Games experienced the misfortune of having their long-awaited upcoming title Grand Theft Auto 6's gameplay footage leaked online. Now, source code for the popular title Grand Theft Auto 5 has been partially leaked on GitHub, detailing unreleased content possibly coming to the sandbox game in the future.
As noted by DSOGaming, the leak included "cut content from GTA Online, development notes, and parts of the anti-cheat" system. In addition, the source code featured turntables and scripting functions. While these features aren't useful for players, Rockstar Games is filing DMCA claims against anyone who integrates or uses the resources online or in-game; this action suggests that more content might be coming to GTA 5 fairly soon.
That said, there's no telling for sure if anything might happen involving the unreleased GTA content and source code. For the past couple of months, Rockstar Games has had assets, files, content, and details concerning the Grand Theft Auto franchise multiple times. A few days ago, a separate report arose detailing the impending arrival of a "definitive edition" of some of Rockstar Games' most esteemed GTA titles.
As reported by Exputer on 14th November 2022, SteamDB continues to update GTA: Trilogy, but it seems a definitive edition might be released on Steam for GTA 3, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas in the future. This definite edition will likely feature content not seen across previous versions and perform much better. That said, there's no clue when the definitive edition of the GTA: Trilogy might arrive.
For now, GTA fans should take this information with a grain of salt. Until Rockstar Games officially announces upcoming content for GTA 5 and GTA Online, or even a definitive version for GTA 3, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas, it's best to assume nothing's happening yet.
