Rockstar Games, the developers behind the critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series, has announced the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on Steam. The collection includes the iconic titles Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, all of which have been updated with modern controls, graphical and environmental upgrades, and other enhancements.
According to the official Rockstar Games Newswire blog post on 19 January 2023, players can purchase the collection on Steam and take advantage of a special publisher sale that offers 50% off the collection's price. The sale also includes discounts on other Rockstar Games titles such as Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, and classic titles like Grand Theft Auto IV. The sale will end on 2 February 2023.
In addition to being available on Steam, the collection is also available for purchase on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via the Rockstar Games Launcher. The collection will also be available on the Epic Games store later in January.
Beyond this, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Editio will be optimized to work on Steam Deck, ensuring that players can experience the same high-quality graphics and gameplay as they would on a traditional gaming setup. Steam Deck's cloud gaming technology allows players to enjoy the collection on the go, making it easy to play the game anywhere and anytime. Additionally, this version of the game supports additional features such as achievements, which will help players to track their progress and unlock rewards as they play.
The Grand Theft Auto series has been a staple in the gaming industry for over 20 years and continues to be one of the best-selling franchises of all time, with over 150 million copies sold worldwide. While the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was initially met with harsh criticism amid a string of technical issues, the collection's nostalgic value and immersive (albeit mature) storyline are enough to somewhat look past its jankyness.
