Open-world survival game Grounded shrinks players down to the size of an ant and has them navigate the very terrifying world of bugs and beasties. While players have been enjoying the overgrown world since 2022, more content is on the horizon thanks to the 1.4 Update. And players are expecting big things. Recently it was revealed that Grounded will be heading to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 later this year, hinting that there are plenty more exciting features on the way. So, if you're looking forward to more from Grounded, here's what we know about the upcoming 1.4 Update.
Grounded 1.4 Release Date
Grounded's 1.4 Update is currently scheduled to arrive on April 16, 2024. This marks the same day that the game launches on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
The arrival of the update on this date makes a lot of sense. We'll likely see a lot of features, bug fixes, and other tweaks arrive with the new platform launches. It's also been confirmed that Cross Play will be added to Grounded, meaning you'll be able to pick up your adventures on these new platforms exactly where you left off on PC or Xbox.
Grounded 1.4 Update: Upcoming Content
Obsidian Entertainment, developers behind Grounded, have yet to reveal exactly what content will be arriving in the 1.4 Update. However, that hasn't stopped fans from making some educated guesses and speculations.
A New Character?
Fans have speculated that we could see a new playable character join the roster. Currently, players can choose between playing as Max, Willow, Pete, and Hoops. Up to four players can play co-op in Grounded, one character for each. While a new playable character likely won't increase the co-op capabilities, it will give players a little more choice.
At the time of writing, Obsidian have yet to confirm whether or not a new playable character will be arriving in-game.
New Weapons & Boss?
Thanks to a trailer for the upcoming update, eagle-eyed fans have spotted what they believe to be new weapons, and potentially a new boss.
Most of Grounded's weaponry comes from the bugs and bosses you defeat on your adventure, fashioning their discarded parts into usable tools. From the recent trailer, it seems a possible Ant Queen Scepter is the community's main talking point. Veteran players will know that there's been no sign of an Ant Queen in the game thus far, which seems like an oversight. So, could we finally see its appearance in the new update?
Images of a new "Mint Sword" have also been spotted, so players might have a little more to play with when the new update drops this April. The Mint Sword is expected to be another Tier 3 weapon, matching the Mint Staff and Mint Mace.
New Quests & Story?
Should a new boss be added in-game, it suggests that we could see some more quests arrive. If so, they'll likely be tied to taking down the Ant Queen boss, or fashioning these new weapons. For now though, Obsidian have been keeping things under wraps.
We'll be sure to update this page with more information regarding the 1.4 Update ahead of its launch on April 16, 2024.
