Lightspeed Studios are working with Square Enix on an ambitious project — bringing Final Fantasy XIV to mobile. Yes, the popular and expansive MMORPG will soon be playable from the palm of your hand giving us a fresh way to experience the realm of Eorzea.
While we don't have a release date for Final Fantasy XIV Mobile just yet, we've already begun asking questions about how the MMO will be adapted for handheld devices.
Is FFXIV Mobile Free to Play?
For now, both Lightspeed Studios and Square Enix have been fairly vague on the details surrounding Final Fantasy XIV Mobile. That said, we can likely assume that players will need a subscription to play the MMORPG on mobile devices just as they do the main game. We'll be sure to update this article with confirmed information once it's available.
FFXIV Mobile is set to be a sister game to the main FFXIV and, while developed by Lightspeed, it'll still be produced under the supervision of FFXIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida and the wider development team members. The mobile game "faithfully recreates the original game's award-winning gameplay and story experience," according to a recent official blog.
At launch, players will be able to level nine combat Jobs (the ones found in A Realm Reborn) and 11 crafting and gathering classes. Should the mobile version add later expansions after A Realm Reborn, we can likely expect more of the expansion Jobs to arrive in-game.
Final Fantasy XIV Mobile doesn't have a release date just yet, but playtests are expected to begin soon for players in China.
