Square Enix revealed at PAX East during a special Final Fantasy 14 presentation that the MMORPG's next expansion, Dawntrail, will be releasing on July 2, 2024. Early access will also be available from June 28.
But, it seems we could have gotten our hands on Dawntrail earlier if a certain FromSoftware title wasn't releasing its own long-awaited DLC at the same time. Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki 'Yoshi-P' Yoshida said of Dawntrail's release date, "We figured everyone would be interested in playing the Elden Ring DLC. I'll give you one week!"
Shadow of the Erdtree is Elden Ring's first expansion, launching on June 21, and will see players enter The Land of Shadow, a region obscured by the Erdtree. For many, it's the perfect excuse to jump back into their Elden Ring playthroughs, or kick-start another. It seems Yoshi-P may be thinking the same.
"Just to make it clear, it's not because I'm interested in playing Elden Ring before Dawntrail," the director said sarcastically.
Plenty of new content and changes are on the way for FF14's Dawntrail, including two new Jobs: Viper and Pictomancer. During the expansion's update cycle, players will also get their hands on a new Limited Job: Beastmaster.
New areas, dungeons, graphical upgrades, and more, will be arriving with the launch of Dawntrail, which will also be the first time a Final Fantasy 14 expansion launches on Xbox. Pre-orders for Dawntrail will go live from Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 9:00 a.m (PDT).
