Samurai is a powerful melee DPS Job in FFXIV. It's considered somewhat of a selfish Job in that it doesn't provide a lot of utility to a party in the form of buffs or debuffs. Instead, Samurai is able to pump out obscene amounts of damage thanks to its powerful set of abilities.

When choosing Materia for any class in FFXIV, it's important to know which stats this Job is trying to prioritize. DPS Jobs will often want as much Strength or Critical Hit as possible, while healers may instead choose to focus on Spell Speed or Speed, in general, to pump out heals as efficiently as possible.
