Fans have been anticipating the PC release of Final Fantasy XVI ever since Square Enix confirmed that the port was in the works. The JRPG company revealed that the franchise’s newest entry would hit computers when detailing the game’s action-packed DLC.
Fans won’t have to wait much longer, as Square Enix have revealed the PC port’s release date. As if that wasn’t enough to get you excited, a free demo of this massive RPG has also been released to familiarize fans with the game.
Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XVI will be coming to PC on September 17, 2024 — just one month away. Unlike previous PC releases from Square Enix, FF16 will be readily available for both Steam and the Epic Games Store. There was a time when the studio would temporarily make its PC games exclusive to Epic, but the company has since moved away from that strategy.
Because this game was made with the powerful PlayStation 5 in mind, fans will need plenty of space to run this title. This port will be a massive 170GB at launch, so players may want to make space for the RPG in a month or so.
Pricing for this release is interesting, as the base version of Final Fantasy XVI will be $50, which is $20 down from the PS5’s price. Those who want the base game and all of its DLC can purchase the Complete Edition for $70, once again, the same price as the regular PS5 version. It seems that Square Enix is trying to get some goodwill back from PC players after this game’s console exclusivity.
Despite gaining rave scores from critics upon its release, the fan reception to this franchise’s newest entry was mixed. Although many enjoyed the story and combat, some felt that this game didn’t “feel” like a JRPG anymore. It will be interesting to see if that reception stays the same for this game’s PC release.
Final Fantasy XVI is readily available on PlayStation 5. PC players will finally get the chance to play this action RPG on September 17.
