Playground Games have revealed more of their upcoming Fable reboot as part of the recent Xbox Showcase, announcing that the RPG will be heading to Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2025. The almost 3-minute trailer kicked off with a very on-brand question: "So, you want to know all about Heroes, d'ya?"
It introduced fans to Albion's greatest (and now retired) Hero, Humphry, portrayed by none other than Peep Show's Matt King. Trailer footage aside, I think we can all agree that Super Hans would fit seemlessly into the world of Fable. It seems Playground Games thought so too.
The new trailer gave fans a better look at our possible upcoming protagonist, though it remains unclear whether it'll keep up Fable 2 and 3's trend of offering a Male and Female protagonist to choose from in-game. We also got a brief look at some of the in-world interaction with NPCs, environments, creatures, and a smattering of combat. Though the trailer doesn't go into too much gameplay depth (here's to hoping for a full gameplay trailer in the near future), it seems our Hero will once again be amassing fans and haters, admirers, and... Toads. The Fable series' staple of moral choices also seems to be a returning feature, letting players choose between being that shining white knight, or globally feared villain.
As for story, Playground Games have kept things fully under wraps for now, though it seems King's character of Humphry could have an important part to play. Fans have also been quick to speculate just who it is that shows up at the very end of the trailer.
With Fable not set to launch until 2025, fans have plenty of time to decide just which Hero they'll become. Personally, I'll be looking to Super Hans for wisdom. Remember, "the secret ingredient is crime.”
