A recent interview with a prominent figure within Xbox provided an update on the forthcoming action RPG Fable by developer Playground Games. The game was first announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2020, and an in-game trailer was unveiled at the same event in 2023, and another trailer was released last year.

The action RPG was initially intended to be released sometime in 2025; however, a statement from Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan confirms some unfortunate news. This was explained during an interview with the Xbox Game Studios head in this week's Official Xbox Podcast episode, and it was confirmed that Fable was delayed to a 2026 release window.

The Official Xbox Podcast's latest episode was released on 25th February 2025 on the Xbox YouTube channel and dedicated podcast apps, in which Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan as its guest. During the interview, when talking about Fable, which is in development by the Forza Horizon creators, Duncan stated that he's "really excited, really excited about progress, really excited about where Playground are.”

“We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025, we are actually going to give Fable more time and it’s going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it’s definitely worth the wait,” Duncan explained in the Official Xbox Podcast interview.

With Fable's delay announcement giving the team at Playground Games more time to polish the game and patch the annoying bugs and glitches, new Fable gameplay footage was released and available in the podcast episode VOD on YouTube. Duncan reaffirmed to players that given Playground Games' exceptional pedigree and history of the Forza Horizon franchise, this is what the studio will be contributing to the Fable franchise.

While he described what Playground Games have brought to the table during the game's development, from the visuals to their quirky British humor, their take on a Fable game will be "the most beautifully realized version of Albion" players have seen. “So really excited about the plans and really excited about the future, and I want the community to understand that we do these things for the best of the games and the teams, and ultimately that results in the best games, or the best game for the community," Duncan concluded.
