Shadow of The Erdtree has delivered on all fronts, from its expansive world and lurking enemies to its new armor sets and powerful weapons. The Sword of Night is one such weapon, and aside from being one of the coolest-looking weapons in the game, it's also an extremely effective katana in combat.

If you're interested in trying this sword out for your next DLC build, we've got you covered. Below, we'll show you exactly how to get the Sword of Night, its abilities, and stats in Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree.

How To Get Sword of Night In Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree

To obtain the Sword of Night in Shadow of The Erdtree, you’ll need to embark on a fairly lengthy quest that takes you through some challenging areas on the map. However, it’s well worth the effort, as it’s one of the most powerful weapons in the game—a significant claim considering the current meta includes strong backhand blades, great katanas, and thrusting shields.

To start the quest for the Sword of Night, you need to head to Manus Metyr and speak to Count Ymir. (Picture: Shane / FromSoftware)

Start your journey by visiting the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in western Scadu Altus (as shown on the map). There, you’ll find an NPC named Count Ymir seated on a throne. Speaking to him will initiate a series of quests involving multiple Finger Ruins throughout the Land of Shadow.

Initially, Count Ymir will give you a map and a Hole-Laden Necklace. You must take these to the Finger Ruins of Rhia, accessible via the Southern Shore region. Upon arrival, approach the bell in the center of the ruins to receive the Crimson Seed Talisman +1.

Return to Count Ymir to receive a new map and Beloved Stardust, which you’ll need to take to the Finger Ruins of Dheo. You can reach this location by interacting with a statue near the Back Gate Site of Grace in Shadow Keep. Use the "O Mother" gesture in the room next to the site of grace to open a new passageway.

This passage leads to the Hinterlands, directing you to the Finger Ruins of Dheo. Again, interact with the bell in the center to receive the Cerulean Seed Talisman +1. Take this back to Count Ymir to receive the final map, which will not require extensive travel.

After receiving the map, rest at a site of Grace to reset the area. When you approach the throne, Ymir will be gone. Interact with the throne to reveal a hidden stairway to the Finger Ruins of Miyr. Here, you’ll need to defeat the boss, Metyr, Mother of Fingers. With adequate levels and enough Scadutree Fragments, she’s one of the easier major bosses in the DLC.

After defeating Metyr, return and interact with the throne again to summon the Swordhand of Night Jolan invader, who must also be defeated. Following his defeat, Count Ymir will respawn as a boss, requiring you to defeat him as well.

Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers, is a Remembrance Boss in Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree, but she doesn’t have much HP, so you can defeat him quickly with high-damage spells or abilities. The main challenge is dealing with the Fingercreepers he spawns, but they aren’t too difficult if you stay focused and avoid getting swarmed.

Once Count Ymir is defeated, fast travel away and return to the throne room one last time. You’ll find Jolan leaning against the wall. If you’ve found the Iris of Grace and/or Iris of Occultation items during your journey, you can give her one of them. Choose the Iris of Occultation, and when Jolan perishes, loot the glowing item she leaves behind to finally receive the Sword of Night.

After defeating Ymir, you'll find Jolan lying on the ground, and after giving her the Iris of Occultation, you can loot the Sword of Night from her body. (Picture: Shane / FromSoftware)

If you haven’t found an Iris of Occultation yet, you can easily obtain one by defeating the Lesser Omenkiller in the Fort of Reprimand in Scadu Altus. Alternatively, you can defeat a Lesser Ulcerated Spirit in the Shadow Keep’s Church District, though this can be more tedious, so the Lesser Omenkiller is recommended.

Now that you have the Sword of Night, you’ll want to know its stats and specs. It’s a light weapon that scales with Dexterity and features the Witching Hour Slash, a fast and flashy move. Here’s a breakdown of its specs:
