As you venture through the world of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you'll encounter many unique and mysterious items. Among these, the Iris of Occultation and Iris of Grace stand out. And although their descriptions are vague, knowing how to use them can grant you immense power.

In this guide, we'll show you how to obtain all the Iris of Occultation and Iris of Grace items in Elden Ring: Shadow of The Erdtree. We'll also cover how to use them to unlock significant firepower for your DLC builds.

How To Find The Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation

In Shadow of the Erdtree, there are two Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation items, both consumables needed to complete two specific questlines: Fire Knight Queelign and Count Ymir's. At the end of each quest, you have the option to use either the Grace or Occultation Iris. Depending on your choice, you'll receive different rewards: the Grace Iris gives you the "Light" ending, and the Occultation Iris gives you the "Dark" ending.

The Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation items are used to select either a dark or light ending for certain NPC quests. (Picture: Shane / FromSoftware)

This is why there are two of each item. If you want to end both quests with the "Dark" choice, you can use both Occultation Irises, and vice versa for the Grace Irises and "Light" endings. Now that you know how they work, let's explore the locations of each one.

Iris of Grace Locations in Shadow of the Erdtree

Shadow Keep Infirmary

From the Specimen Chamber First Floor Site of Grace, go to the left around the large animal and head west into the first chamber you see. There should be an elevator here that you can take straight down.

When you reach the bottom, take the doorway on your right. Continue down the hall, enter the doorway on your left, and spot the jar innard enemy below you. Drop down, defeat the innard monster, and collect the Iris of Grace.

Tree-Worship Passage

If you've drained the water from the Church District, you can read on ahead, but if you haven't, start from the Church District Entrance Site of Grace. Continue across the building ruins towards the northwest until you reach the building with a Fire Knight.

Once you reach the Tree-Worship Passage Site of Grace, simply head over the bridge to find Marika's statue and the Iris in front of it. (Picture: Shane / FromSoftware)

Head past it to the southern rooftop. From here, drop down the hole in the building onto the arches below and move over to the large hole in the floor to the southwest. Drop into the hole and follow the northwestern path until you reach the second door on your left. Continue until you reach a ladder, which leads to a turnstile that lowers the water level in the Church District, activating the Sunken Chapel Site of Grace.

Once the Sunken Chapel Site of Grace is activated and the water is drained, enter the building to the northwest and progress forward until just before the Statue of Marika. Turn right and head straight until you reach a door. Open it up and take the elevator straight down which will lead you to a bridge and the Tree-Worship Passage Site of Grace, and when you cross the bridge ahead of you you'll see another statue of Marika, with the Iris of Grace.

Fort of Reprimand

Start from the Moorth Highway, South Site of Grace, and head south towards the cliff. You'll spot a small hole passing through the cliff face you can take, and on the other side, you'll see Fort of Reprimand on your right.

Enter the Fort of Reprimand and hug the left wall to find a square hole in the floor. Jump in to find an Omenkiller, which, when defeated, will give you the first Iris of Occultation.

Ulcerated Tree Spirit

This Iris can be found while you're getting the two Grace Irises, as it is also in the Church District. Start from the Church District Entrance Site of Grace after you’ve drained the water from the area.

Go down the stairs to the south and pull the lever to activate the elevator. Ride the elevator down and head northwest until an Ulcerated Tree Spirit burrows out of the ground. Defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit to receive an Iris of Occultation.

How to Use Iris of Occultation and Iris of Grace

As previously mentioned, the Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation will change what reward you’ll get at the end of the Fire Knight Queelign and Count Ymir quest lines, but the irises will always give the same type of reward. The Iris of Grace will always lead to a Spirit Ash, while the Iris of Occultation will always lead to a weapon (mild spoilers ahead).

In the Fire Knight Queelign quest, the Iris of Grace will get you the Fire Knight Queelign Spirit Ash, while the Iris of Occultation will get you Queelign’s Greatsword. As for the Count Ymir questline, the Iris of Grace option will give you the Swordhand of Night Jolán Spirit Ash (which can be upgraded at the top of Rabbath’s Rise), while the Iris of Occultation option will give you the Sword of Night.

So there you have it, a comprehensive breakdown of how to get both the Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation in Shadow of the Erdtree, as well as how they are used to grant you powerful weapons and abilities. Be sure to try these out, but be sure of your choice, as once it's made, there's no going back. Happy hunting!
