Dubbed as a "Cosy Fishing Horror" game, Dredge is something special. I recently started playing Dredge on my Steam Deck and quickly realized just how atmospheric, haunting, and beautiful Black Salt Games' title is. It comes as no surprise to me that Dredge can, and now will, be turned into a live-action film.
As first reported by Variety, developer Black Salt Games and production company Story Kitchen have teamed up for the Dredge film. While no release date information or even casting information is available just yet, an official description of the Dredge film has us enticed:
Think ‘The Sixth Sense’ on the water. A grounded atmospheric cosmic horror blend of HP Lovecraft and Ernest Hemingway.
Now that's a combo!
Dmitri M. Johnson, a Sonic the Hedgehog producer, is the co-founder of Story Kitchen. In a statement to Variety, Story Kitchen says: "Dredge is a captivatingly eerie and profoundly rich story that had us completely hooked from the very beginning."
On Twitter (X), developer Black Salt Games also announced the partnership, sharing excitement for the Dredge live-action film.
The developer went on to ask, "What do you think are the critical parts to get right in a movie adaptation of DREDGE? Who would you cast in this cozy fishing horror?"
In terms of casting, my answer is quite obvious: Please get Pedro Pascal, as the actor's look and demeanor would be perfect as the new fisherman pulled into the eldritch horror theme.
