Disco Elysium: Should I Shave My Beard Or Not?

Whilst a small decision to be sure, making the choice to shave Harry’s iconic facial hair is still a tough one in Disco Elysium. Choosing to part with your detective’s classic Disco-ready sideburns and moustache will leave you with a clean-shaven cop, but at what cost?

In this guide, we’ll make sure you know what you’re getting into before taking the plunge and where you’ll need to go (while getting a free place to sleep) if you’re truly committed to chopping off those chops.

How to Shave in Disco Elysium

If you’re tired of the ‘tache and eager to see what’s hidden beneath, you’ll need to do the following to shave in Disco Elysium:

1. Wait til Day 3, when the water lock is repaired and Western Martinaise is open.

2. Head to the Fishing Village and speak to the Washerwoman. 

3. Take her offer to sleep in the Fishing Shack.

4. Enter and interact with the straight razor and mirror on the table.

5. Pass a Medium Hand/Eye Coordination check to shave.

What Happens If You Shave Your Facial Hair?

If you succeeded in shaving off the wild mass of hair inhabiting your face, you’ll be treated to a brand new portrait of a clean-shaven Harry to continue your playthrough with, as well as some free healing. Kim will also be available to comment on your freshened look, choosing to avoid giving his true opinion on it, implying his dislike or that it might have been better to keep your alcohol-ravaged mug covered up.

Does Your Facial Hair Grow Back in Disco Elysium?

Sadly, no. Don't worry though, aside from a small interaction with Kim, no other character in Martinaise will make a comment on your clean-shaven look, so you can treat the decision as purely cosmetic in its entirety.
