While taking place in the relatively small district of Martinaise within Revachol, the sheer scope of questing possibilities that Disco Elysium has on offer will have players savoring each in-game day as it comes. With such an open-ended and well-crafted CRPG experience, a full playthrough of Disco Elysium can vary wildly from player to player, but how long is the story?
In this guide, we’ll explain how many days you have to spend as a chaotic cop navigating both your missing identity and solving a much bigger murder investigation. We’ll also cover the minimum number of days required to beat the main story, so let’s get into it.
How Many Days Are There In Disco Elysium?
In total, there are ten playable days in Disco Elysium. As time passes in-game, each new day will open up multiple and varying quest lines with the denizens of Martinaise, with some side tasks requiring you to leave and come back at a later point to continue your investigation.
Now, it’s worth noting that you won’t need the full ten days, as the main quest can be completed as soon as Day 5 if you play your dice right. However, you’ll likely be engrossed in the game’s world within just a few days, so we wouldn’t blame anyone wanting to experience the most that the game has to offer, especially since those aforementioned plot points and quest lines can delay you or occur on specific days only.
How Fast Can You Beat Disco Elysium?
Unless you’re a speed freak (No, not that kind, Electrochemistry enjoyers!) and looking to beat the game in under 40 minutes, a full playthrough of Disco Elysium can vary wildly in length between players, especially considering the myriad of diversions available, like going cryptid hunting or starting a nightclub in a church.
Developers ZA/UM went on record on their own dev blog to helpfully provide an estimate of total in-game time, stating:
“It takes 60+ hours of continuous playtime to finish Disco Elysium if you’re a reasonably completionist player…”
They go on to write that it could be rushed in 30 hours, and anyone truly savoring the game could be spending a whopping 90 hours, which is a true bang for your buck. In the end, the time you spend in Disco Elysium is entirely up to you and the choices you want to make, which is the true beauty of role-playing games.
