The Destiny 2: Lightfall Raid, Root of Nightmares, brings some of the most stunning visuals and environments that Bungie has ever cooked up for a Raid. While Root of Nightmares might not be the most challenging Raid in the game, it's among the most fun and newcomer-friendly experiences if you're looking to entice your friends into the world of Destiny Raids.
The Root of Nightmares Raid brings a unique set of armor and weapons to the game that should entice any endgame-level player. The best part is that these weapons are craftable, which means you should be doing everything in your power to run this Raid three times a week until it eventually gets phased in the Raid and Dungeon Weekly Rotation when the next Raid drops. Thankfully, if you're looking for a specific weapon to craft, we've gathered everything you need to know about what each encounter can give you. Let's take a look at the Root of Nightmares Loot Table.
Table of Contents
Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares Raid Overview
While the final boss of Root of Nightmares, Nezarec, is a formidable foe with a design strikingly similar to that of Rhulk from Vow of the Disciple, the armor you can earn is nothing alike. The Root of Nightmares Raid armor is something out of a bad psychedelic trip the likes of which only the Witness could dream up. The weapons are similarly striking with an all-new approach to the design of their silhouettes.
The best part however is the Exotic Shotgun that can drop from the final boss. The Conditional Finality is a Stasis AND Solar Shotgun that does some impressive damage in tandem with the newer Subclass reworks. Running this raid is worth getting that shotgun for alone. If you haven't ever run Root of Nightmares, never fear, we have a guide for each encounter that you'll find in each section of this Loot Table!

Cataclysm Encounter Loot
This first encounter in Root of Nightmares can be extremely chaotic, especially for first-timers, but once you get the hang of it, it'll fly by smoothly. Keep an eye out for the Briar's Contempt Linear Fusion Rifle, it can be a ton of fun!
Weapons | Armor |
Koraxis's Distress (Strand Grenade Launcher) | Mask of Detestation (Helm Armor) |
Nessa's Oblation (Void Shotgun) | Wraps of Detestation (Gauntlet Armor) |
Briar's Contempt (Solar Linear Fusion Rifle) | Robes of Detestation (Chest Armor) |
Scission Encounter Loot
This encounter is similar to the first in that the mechanics stay the same, but add a whole lot of flying across a massive chasm. Move fast here or it'll cause the team to wipe, but you gotta wipe at least once to see the cool way Bungie came up with clearing the board. Watch out for the Acasia's Rejection here, it's a great addition to a Solar build!
Weapons | Armor |
Koraxis's Distress (Strand Grenade Launcher) | Wraps of Detestation (Gauntlet Armor) |
Acasia's Rejection (Solar Trace Rifle) | Robes of Detestation (Chest Armor) |
Mykel's Reverence (Strand Sidearm) | Boots of Detestation (Leg Armor) |
Nessa's Oblation (Void Shotgun) | - |
Macrocosm Encounter Loot
Macrocosm is a divisive Raid encounter. Some players love it and some absolutely detest it. I will say that it can drop the coveted Rufus's Fury Strand Auto Rifle. Whether you love it or hate it, Macrocosm is well worth a few runs just for that.
Weapons | Armor |
Rufus's Fury (Strand Auto Rifle) | Bond of Detestation (Class Item) |
Koraxis's Distress (Strand Grenade Launcher) | Robes of Detestation (Chest Armor) |
Acasia's Rejection (Solar Trace Rifle) | Boots of Detestation (Leg Armor) |
Mykel's Reverence (Strand Sidearm) | - |
Nezarec Encounter Loot
This boss is one of the few in the game that can drop just about anything else that is found in the Raid, making more focused farming a little more difficult. Don't forget that this is the only way you can get your hands on Conditional Finality, so make sure you keep an eye out for that beautiful Yellow icon after you rub Nezzy's face in the mud.
Weapons | Armor |
Conditional Finality (Stasis and Solar Shotgun) | Mask of Detestation (Helm Armor) |
Koraxis's Distress (Strand Grenade Launcher) | Wraps of Detestation (Gauntlet Armor) |
Acasia's Rejection (Solar Trace Rifle) | Robes of Detestation (Chest Armor) |
Mykel's Reverence (Strand Sidearm) | Boots of Detestation (Leg Armor) |
Nessa's Oblation (Void Shotgun) | Bond of Detestation (Class Item) |
Briar's Contempt (Solar Linear Fusion Rifle) | - |
Rufus's Fury (Strand Auto Rifle) | - |
Bonus: Root of Nightmares Raid Secret Hidden Chests
Destiny loves its hidden Raid chests and Root of Nightmares is no exception. There are two hidden chests in the Root of Nightmares Raid. The first can be found on your way to the second encounter by following a branch of the root system into a side room with a Tormentor waiting for players to pounce. The second chest can be found in the puzzle section just before you make it to the Macrocosm room. Next to the door that takes you out of this area, there will be a small Darkness idol that can be shot to spawn in the chest. Follow that up the stairs into the large room with a Light and Darkness bubble inside and the chest will be right between them.
