Destiny 2 players enraged after disappointing masterwork weapon changes

Bungie is gearing for the release of the highly anticipated launch of Destiny 2's The Witch Queen expansion, which is set to arrive on 22nd February.

By now, Guardians know the basics of what to expect in terms of story, gameplay, and even crucial changes coming to light subclasses, which are getting the Stasis treatment, starting with Void.

With the latest This Week at Bungie update, however, the developers revealed a controversial change for the most dedicated of Destiny 2 grinders out there.

What changes you may ask? Well, let's not keep you waiting and get right down to it.

That's right, one of the big system changes coming with the release of The Witch Queen DLC expansion is the fact that all your weapons that have received a masterwork buff will not be dropping Orbs of Power by themselves.

What does this mean? Well, Guardians looking to get Orbs from kills will now have to utilise an armour mod spot to do so.

"Orb generation on weapon multikills will no longer be a function of a weapon’s Masterwork status but will instead be provided by a suite of armor mods, which are unlocked automatically for all players and which plug into the Helmet Armor Mod socket," the update states.

The devs state that a single mod will cover all weapons of a single elemental type. Meaning that if you have three Arc, Void, Solar, or Stasis guns equipped, you can still potentially create Orbs from all three weapon slots.

On top of this, Kinetic with the Osmosis perk and the Exotic assault rifle Hard Light, which can be transformed into any light Elemental type, will benefit from this.

Obtaining Orbs of Power from masterworked weapons was one of the most enticing aspects of investing in powering up guns, besides the boost in a random stat, so removing this hasn't sat well with the community.

Prominent Destiny 2 content creator Gladd called this decision a step back for the health of the game, strongly disagreeing with Bungie's decision.

Adding that it will "bottleneck builds," Gladd shares the same feeling of almost the entire community, as forcing players to use mods in order to get Orbs feels restrictive.

Following this announcement, Bungie has teased new things to come for masterworked gear and, in particular, "Weapon Crafting and other sandbox stuff," according to Bungie's community manager lead DMG.

In the meantime, Destiny 2 fans will have to be patient and hope these changes are for the better.
