In a new Destiny 2 blog update, game director Joe Blackburn revealed some of the changes coming to the game in year 6, aka the Lightfall year. The highlight of this update, among a few other stuff, was the reveal of the game's Season 20, aka, Season of the Defiance.
Aside from revealing the name of Destiny 2 Season 20, Bungie also revealed the key art, giving us the first glimpse of some of the new seasonal armor and weapons. Mara Sov is also on the cover, which suggests that the Queen of Reef will likely have a huge presence in the upcoming seasonal storyline. Some fans even think this will be an Awoken-themed season, but we will have to wait for an official trailer to find out.
As for the changes, Bungie has confirmed a few things which are worth pointing out. Firstly, the progression system is becoming less complex. Umbral Engrams and Umbral Energies are being replaced by Seasonal Engrams, so you won't have to chase different currencies. Furthermore, Seasonal Engrams will be stored and tracked on seasonal vendors, which means more inventory space for you.
Starting from Season of Defiance, Bungie doesn't want you to hold stacks of seasonal currencies and grind the seasonal activities hundreds of times to open the bonus chest at the end for rewards. Instead, you will need keys to open them, which will drop randomly from these activities.
To make up for it, Bungie has improved the rewards you get from the regular chest at the end of every seasonal activity. Bonus chest will also grant better rewards, so when you finally get hold of these keys, the rewards waiting for you will be worth it.
Aside from revealing Season of Defiance, Bungie also revealed Season 21, which is called Season of the Deep. While the studio didn't confirm a start date, it did confirm that it's bringing the Countdown game mode to Crucible, as well as the Meltdown map.
And that's just a few of the things Bungie has revealed about Destiny 2 Season of the Defiance and Season of the Deep.
