Co-developer Motion Twin officially confirmed the final game content update launch for their roguelike Metrodvania release, Dead Cells, this past week. The game has been well-supported post-launch across multiple platforms, including a PlayStation 5 launch in 2023, with several updates and expansion releases, and it has gained critical praise for its level design and combat.
Six years after its release, the developer will end support for Dead Cells with the last update, Update 35, which they shared the official release on social media. Also called "The End is Near," the update will be free to own across all available platforms on 19th August 2024 and adds plenty of new content, Quality-of-Life (QoL) improvements, bug fixes, and more, according to the patch notes.
Dead Cells' Update 35, "The End is Near," will launch for PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox consoles on August 19th, 2024. According to the patch notes, eager players can expect a host of new content to enjoy. These include three mob enemies that should make exploration more intriguing and new Curse variations: Anathema, Indulgence, and Misericorde.
Three Colorless Mutations, legendary affixes for a handful of weapons, and new heads will also be added with the update, the latter must be unlocked for players to equip, but they must speak with the Tailor's Daughter to learn more. Lastly, content-wise, an exit will become available for players; the patch notes indicated the exit is for the Master's Keep at High Peak Castle.
The release of "The End is Near" will see Motion Twin transitioning full-time to their current project, Windblown, announced at The Game Awards 2023. The developer uploaded a Gameplay Trailer for the multiplayer roguelike game in April 2024 and released a Dev Log in July 2024 outlining recent developments made to the game, which is currently available in Early Access on PC via Steam.
