Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED (CDPR) streamed the latest Group Strategy Update on its Internal Relations YouTube channel, sharing production plans for its two leading franchises. Accordingly, CDPR outlined production plans for The Witcher series and shared key details regarding Cyberpunk 2077 and its future.
Having already surpassed 20 million copies sold since its release in December 2020, CDPR saw a surge in interest primarily due to the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime and its subsequent game update. But perhaps the most significant announcement was its plans for the game’s sequel, codenamed “Orion,” soon heading into production.
Cyberpunk 2077 “Project Orion” – Release Date
The Polish developer announced on 4th October 2022 that they’ll be developing the sequel to the action RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. While the studio has not revealed the game’s release date or production schedule, it will handle its production in conjunction with its other studios in North America.

This news coincides with plans to establish new internal studios outside its main studio in Warsaw, Poland, as it’s confirmed that its North America studio will handle one of The Witcher projects. Likewise, the studio is looking to expand its pop culture fields, mainly in film and television, primarily due to the success of its anime project, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Everything We Know About Cyberpunk 2077 “Project Orion”
CDPR's CFO, Piotr Nielubowicz, elaborated that they look to expand the studio in many ways on top of what has been established thus far. He revealed that the company would boost its "development abilities to deliver more content to gamers with a prime focus on quality."
Nielubowicz continued, noting that they would also be "introducing multiplayer experiences and further expanding [the] enduring franchises,” as well as having respect for everyone involved, from the production team to the player base.
Adam Kiciński, President and Joint CEO, highlighted new projects to expand the existing flywheel plan for the Cyberpunk franchise. This includes the previously announced expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty, to be released in 2023 and is centered around V and Johnny Silverhand.

Moreover, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed “Orion,” will be developed by CDPR and look to expand the universe further and “fully unleash the potential” it offers. This includes launching a brand-new studio in Boston, Massachusetts, which will head up the production of Project Orion.
Cyberpunk 2077's Project Orion is reportedly in pre-production, and no release date has been alluded to or confirmed by the studio. However, based on the studio’s efforts to delve into The Witcher franchise first, it’s likely that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will be released following the next Witcher game.
CDPR is to establish its North American hub, which includes The Molasses Flood, the development team in Vancouver, Canada, and its newly formed studio in Boston, who’ll be responsible for the Cyberpunk sequel.
In addition, it’s reported that senior Cyberpunk development team members are to join the new studio in Boston to assist in the production of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and coordinate with teams in Vancouver and Warsaw, respectively.
