Team Spirit Eliminated From IEM Cologne 2024

Team Spirit have endured a troubled run at IEM Cologne 2024, having suffered devastating losses in the Group Stage. It started with the team's match against The MongolZ in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals, where the team lost the first two maps: Ancient (16-13), and Anubis (13-4).

It was a fast-track to the Lower Bracket Quarterfinals where the team were matched with G2 Esports, who had lost their own Upper Bracket Quarterfinals match to SAW. In what likely blindsided every CS fan, these two previous IEM Major champions were left to duke it out in the Lower Bracket. For the losing team, it would be the end of their IEM Cologne 2024 journey.

Beginning on Nuke, it was an early dominance from G2, last year's winners of both IEM Cologne and Dallas. Team Spirit were unable to catch their breath, losing the first map 13-3. But the pain had only just begun. On the second map, Mirage, it was a near clean sweep for G2, winning the map 13-1 and clinging on to their hopes for another IEM Cologne championship.

For Team Spirit, the performance was a far cry from the team's previous run during IEM Katowice 2024, the very victory that secured their spot at Cologne in the first place. Left with much to think about, Spirit's road to the playoffs has come to an ebrupt end. The team will now be focusing on their next tournament: BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 #2.
