s1mple to Miss Out on Shanghai Major as Falcons' RMR Run Falls Flat

Considered by many as the GOAT of Counter-Strike, Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev missed the first Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Major Championship (Copenhagen Major) as he was inactive. In September, s1mple returned to competitive play on loan with Team Falcons in an attempt to qualify for the Perfect World Shanghai Major.

Team Falcons got off to a good start at the Shanghai Major European A RMR event, beating Eclot with a score of 16-13. Then, the Falcons lost to FaZe Clan on another map that went into Overtime, with a score of 16-12. Unfortunately for Team Falcons, the hits kept on coming, as SAW beat them 13-5 in a rather shocking win. In the final match for s1mple and Falcons at the European A RMR, they lost 2-1 to GamerLegion and were, therefore, eliminated from the tournament.

s1mple did show moments of his old brilliance, especially on the final map against GamerLegion. On Mirage, s1mple topped the scoreboard with 23 kills and a 1.65 HLTV rating, despite Team Falcons losing to GamerLegion with a 13-7 score.

Taking to Twitter (X), s1mple spoke to his fans and promised that he would be back and strong, practicing to win a Major Championship.

s1mple is, of course, still a part of NAVI, sitting on the bench, and currently on loan with Team Falcons. The hope was that with s1mple, Team Falcons could qualify for the Shanghai Major, but that didn't come to pass.

Will we ever see the GOAT win a CS2 Major Championship? Will s1mple remain with NAVI on the bench? We can't wait to see what happens in the future, but for now, all eyes are on the teams competing at the Perfect World Shanghai Major from 30 November to 15 December 2024.
