It is no secret that G2 Esports' Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) roster is undergoing several changes. We recently saw the benching of Nemanja "nexa" Isaković and then the addition of Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa to the roster. Then, G2 Esports officially benched their in-game leader (IGL), Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen, leaving fans to wonder who will take up the IGL mantle.
Spoiler alert: it's most likely going to be Bosnian superstar entry fragger, the 27-year-old Nikola "NiKo" Kovač! After all, NiKo did lead G2 Esports to victory with substitute Stewie2K at IEM Dallas 2024 recently, beating Team Vitality in dramatic fashion.
NiKo is widely considered to be one of the best riflers of all time, consistently putting up MVP performances and making it to the top 10 best players in the world amongst a sea of AWPers throughout the years.
NiKo took to Twitter (X) with a poll with only two options, namely "NiKo to IGL" and NiKo to not IGL." With the poll now closed, you can see the results below, and it is clear that more fans want NiKo to IGL in G2 Esports.
With 60,535 votes in total, 59.4% want NiKo to take on the IGL role in G2, and 40.6% don't want him to do it. Yes, G2's CS2 handle on X did repost the poll as well, so the org is playing along with the tease.
It looks like not only are the fans behind NiKo as IGL, but several analysts, casters and event hosts are as well. For example, James Banks replied to NiKo's poll, stating:
It worked in Dallas, and you performed. Let's go!
Will NiKo lead G2 Esports in the critical upcoming events such as BLAST Premier Fall Groups and ESL Pro League Season 20? That does seem likely, but we will confirm as soon as official information becomes available.
