An ESL Pro League Season 20 map went further than anyone expected, with M80 and Fnatic fighting for 71 rounds on Anubis.

It's been a crazy ride for Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports fans at ESL Pro League Season 20, with the first map getting overturned due to the use of Snap Tap, Team Spirit's star rifler, Danil "donk" Kryshkovets setting a new CS2 kill record, and now, we've got the longest map ever to be played in Valve's first-person shooter.

In the Group C upper bracket semifinal match between M80 and Fnatic, the teams set a new record in the opening map, Anubis, which was M80's map pick. At the end of regulation, teams were tied 12-12, and that's when the sparks really started to fly.

For those who don't know, overtime can go on forever in CS2. An additional six rounds are added (3 rounds per side for each team), and if a team is two rounds ahead when all six rounds of overtime are played, they are the winner. However, if teams tie again, for example, 15-15 after the first overtime, another six rounds of overtime are played. Fnatic and M80 were so evenly matched, and no team wanted to give up, that they played 71 rounds, setting a new world record in the process.

The record is, of course, for professional tournaments and teams, so your CS2 Competitive Silver-ranked games do not count.

At 63 rounds played, the tournament admins even gave teams a bathroom break, something I haven't seen before in all my years of watching CS2.

For reference, the previous record for the longest map in CS2 was 64 rounds between Zero Tenacity and Rhyno at the Elisa Invitational Fall 2024. The record is for CS2, and does not include CS:GO matches.
