Creative Assembly has revealed their latest spin-off project: a free-to-play card game called Total War: Elysium.
As you can see from the name of the game, it is based on their famous grand strategy franchise Total War.
The basic premise of the game is that famous generals and warlords from various periods of history and regions all around the world are gathered together to fight against each other.
"Experience countless exciting battles, build masterful decks, and dominate the battlefield as history’s most famous leaders determine who is the greatest strategist of all time," says the official description of the game.
"Command the best units and soldiers in history, from the Huscarls of Viking kings, the Elite Guard of the Napoleonic Empire, or the fearsome Jade Warriors from the Three Kingdoms. Throw down a challenge to legendary Generals and historical figures such as Viking shieldmaiden Lagertha, the warlord Cao Cao, or even the cunning diplomat Marie Antoinette. "
Each general has its own unique gameplay style, with weaknesses and strengths, and it's up to you to decide which type of strategies suits you the most.
Cards in the game will represent army units from historical eras, and there are some interesting mechanics, like the one we see in the trailer called "Daybreak" which allows you to edit deck in the middle of the game.
The game is now entering into closed beta phase, and currently is available only for mobile, but at the latter phase will come to PC.
Judging by reactions on the trailer in comments and the number of dislikes, Total War fans aren't happy with this announcement. But luckily for them, a new Total War game is on its way, called Total War Saga: Troy, and it's coming later this year.
