The next title in the critically acclaimed franchise, Call of Duty 2021, is still releasing this year. Codenamed Vanguard, we know very little about the next Call of Duty, developed by Sledgehammer. This might change soon, however, as there's a very good chance Call of Duty 2021 Vanguard will be revealed during Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 5. First up, Treyarch revealed a cryptic Season 4 outro cinematic on 3rd August, and now, Activision has revealed the full trailer for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 5...
COD 2021 Vanguard tease in Warzone Season 5 trailer
The Warzone Season 5 trailer features a hacker, which is a bit ironic since the Battle Royale does have a cheater/hacker problem. Could one go as far as to say Activision is catering to their core audience, aka hackers? Probably not, but that's beside the point.
First up, check out the trailer below and see if you can spot the Call of Duty Vanguard tease on your own.
The trailer and everything revealed so far is very much in line with a recent leak, which suggests the following content:
- Season 5 has a bit of a Japanese theme
- Tec-9 is coming
- The Operator's name is Kitsune.
Previous Warzone leaks have also suggested that Vanguard is going to be officially revealed this summer as an in-game event in Warzone and there are claims that Warzone will get a brand new WW2 Pacific map with the release of Call of Duty 2021.
So what does this have to do with the Warzone Season 5 trailer? Well, Activision reiterated in the recent earnings call that Call of Duty 2021 will "deeply integrate with Warzone" and that the game will release later this year alongside "major new in-game experiences for Warzone".
At the end of the Warzone Season 5 trailer, you can see the new Operator named Kitsune and what appears to be the Tec-9. With such a flashing cinematic, it might be easy to miss the Japanese text floating in the background, repeating itself.
Here's the kicker. According to a fan "Eric Maynard" on Twitter, the Japanese text translates to "Vanguard coming".
Since this is inside the Warzone Season 5 trailer, and absolutely does check out, players are now expecting an in-game event sometime during Season 5 which will officially reveal Call of Duty 2021 Vanguard.
At the time of writing, no official information about the exact time or date the Call of Duty 2021 reveal or in-game event for Warzone will take place.
With the tease inside the Season 5 trailer, however, we expect this to happen sooner rather than later. Remember, Warzone Season 5 gets underway on 12th August, so the wait might not be that long.
