Is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox Game Pass?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare and a spiritual successor to 2009's game of the same name. It's the next installment in Activision's long-running franchise, and fans have wondered whether it's coming to Microsoft's subscription service, Xbox Game Pass. 

At the start of 2022, Microsoft announced that it was acquiring Activision Blizzard for a whopping $68.7 million.

As has been the case with every Microsoft buyout, fans assumed that Activision's games would eventually make their way to Game Pass, including the latest iteration of Call of Duty. So is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 coming to Xbox Game Pass?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on Game Pass at Launch?

Unfortunately, at least at launch, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is not coming to Xbox Game Pass. This is primarily because Activision has a deal with Sony that prevents it from releasing Call of Duty games on Game Pass for the foreseeable future.

Microsoft revealed the info above for its case with UK's CMA. According to the document, "The agreement between Activision Blizzard and Sony includes restrictions on the ability of Activision Blizzard to place Call of Duty title on Game Pass for a number of years."

You shouldn't expect Modern Warfare 2 or any Call of Duty game to land on Xbox Game Pass anytime soon.

Will Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Come to Xbox Game Pass?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 should come to Xbox Game Pass if Microsoft's Activision deal goes through. Alongside Modern Warfare 2, you could expect past Call of Duty games and upcoming titles to launch on Game Pass.

However, there's no ETA on when Microsoft's Activision deal will complete, if at all. As of this writing, Activision has a marketing partnership for Call of Duty with Sony and PlayStation.

PlayStation owners of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will get timed exclusive content, such as the Hiro Oni Watanable operator and bonus Gunsmith 2.0 slots.

Overall, it's too early to say whether Modern Warfare 2 will ever come to Xbox Game Pass or not. However, as far as the launch is concerned, a Game Pass release looks highly unlikely.
