The stature of the Call of Duty franchise within the FPS shooter genre is undeniable, particularly in its multiplayer domain. However, as is often the case with such large-scale multiplayer titles, the presence of cheaters can mar the gaming experience for others. Fortunately, it appears that the Call of Duty community has achieved a victory against cheaters, as a prominent cheat developer has been forced to cease operations.

The reasons behind this development are multifaceted, ultimately stemming from legal actions taken against the company, compelling its closure. So let's delve into the specifics surrounding this triumph for the Call of Duty community below.

Call of Duty Cheat Developer Shuts Down After Legal Threats

A large cheat developing company called "Interwebz" has recently shut down their company visiting the website greets you with an announcement explaining the company's closure. This came after the company "received a legal notice regarding our products, and we have made the decision to comply with the legal notice and end existing services."

Call of Duty or, in this case, Activision has been trying to put a stop to the company for a while, and it seems that this notice was the final nail in the coffin and the company caved to the demands. The company goes on to thank users for years of support, adding that they know players will be disappointed by the news. The website notice concludes, "We wish there was another way to deal with this situation, but sadly we don’t have many other options available."

And while this might be "sad" for players who used the service, the prevailing opinion as seen in the comments of the Twitter post by CharlieINTEL that showcased this news is that players are rejoicing at the company's shutdown. As one user states, "If this is real, this is just the start, this could be looking great for the gaming community as a whole. Especially with the money Activision has, they could just go after every gaming cheat company there is. Low probability that'll happen though."

Many are even rolling their eyes at the company's statement as it makes it seem that building cheats for a live service game is an honorable craft. As Mark "Maze" Perozo cheered, "Love how they’re addressing their users as a 'community' as if they’re not ruining the actual community these cheaters are trying to be involved in."

While this is generally good news as it's one less cheat provider on the market, some players are a bit more pessimistic about the outcome as one user Midnight states: "I'm definitely not a pro cheater in competitive games, but in reality, these folks will go underground for a minute...Next month they will have a new Discord and a new website and the same scripts running that Ricochet has no ability to flag."

Call Of Duty Cheat Developer Shut Down After Legal Action Hopeful for more actions in future
We're hopeful that this marks the beginning of more legal actions to come against other cheat producers on the market and help remove more cheaters from the game as a whole. (Picture: Activision)

We think that even if this "win" might be on shaky grounds, it's still undeniable that the removal of this company's presence is a good thing, and we're hopeful that it's a start to other companies going the same way as Interwebz, even if legal action is the best solution. So for now, all we can do is hope that Anti-cheat improves to ban cheaters and that Activision takes more legal steps to stop cheat creators.
