Black Ops Cold War's Zombies mode was given a full showcase in a new trailer.

Activision and Treyarch has given fans the first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's zombies mode, with a brand new gameplay trailer and some choice words from the developers.

The main takeaway from the reveal was that this is Zombies taken to a whole new level, with new features, a single and multiplayer campaign, and more of what makes the game mode so great in the first place.

But before we dive into all that, check out the reveal video.

Zombies storyline - "Die Maschine"

Promising a "completely different story", Treyarch is attempting to elevate the game mode to something much grander than has come before.

Enter "Die Maschine".

A location that will look somewhat to familiar to players as it's directly inspired by the original World at War Zombies map "Nacht Der Untoten".

"The very end of Black Ops 4, our characters sacrificed themselves to collapse the multi-verse and try and create a singular world where Zombies didn't exist... And they were half-right."

Players will play as part of Requiem, a CIA backed international response team, they will be up against the Omega group, a Soviet-backed force that also wants to know exactly what lies underneath the Die Maschine bunker.

There will be other characters that make an appearance throughout, all with their own agendas in the murky world of Cold War politics. It all sounds very juicy.

New and returning features

Treyarch also announced a number of features that are being introduced to Zombies.

Cross-generational cross-play and all the potential issues that throw up have been clarified and long story short you will be able to play with anyone on any generation of console, as well as keep all your progress if you switch.

All the things that make Zombies a great game mode is back and better than ever.

Loadouts are now unified across all Call of Duty game modes, so if you unlock a weapon or scorestreak in the main multiplayer game modes you can bring it straight into Zombies.

Players will also no longer start with a pistol, with players able to select any weapon from their arsenal they choose.

On the topic of weapons, all guns will now have a rarity rating, as it increases the weapon will deal more damage.

A major departure from previous years is the exfil option, which allows players to get evacuated by helicopter, earning XP and living to fight another day.

Release date

The Zombies game mode is set to be released on the 12th of November. The game enters open beta this weekend for PlayStation players and next for Xbox One and PC, but there has been no word yet if this will include Zombies.
