Once you place a water intake, it will have an effective radius, and any Water tank placed in it will be irrigated with water from the intake.

Water tanks can then be placed, and they also have their effective radius, meaning that you can place another water intake that's near that one's radius to also get irrigated even if it's out of the radius of the water intake. Now, many players assume that you can only place water tanks in the effective radius of the previous one, but this isn't the case, and it's here where the trick comes into play.
