On the Island of ARK Survival Ascended, few dinosaurs can match the power and combat capabilities of the Tyrannosaurus Rex, also known as the T-Rex. These creatures are the most iconic Tames in the game, and rightfully so. Therefore, understanding how to acquire one is almost a prerequisite at this point.
We've got you covered if you haven't yet obtained one of these formidable creatures. In the following sections, we will provide a detailed guide on locating and taming the Tyrannosaurus Rex in ARK Survival Ascended, highlighting what makes this dino highly desirable.
How To Find and Tame the T-Rex in ARK Survival Ascended
The T-Rex is a large and often colorful theropod dinosaur, making them quite easy to spot in the wild. Thankfully, their predatory nature enables them to wander all over the island, and thus, they can be found in various locations, as shown on the map image below.
They are more commonly found wandering around the volcano in the center of the map and moving through the lush forests surrounding the northern hemisphere of the map. Of course, you can also find them on Carnivore or "Carno" island to the northeast of the map, but this spot is quite dangerous as it's filled with tons of other carnivores that can easily overwhelm you.
Once found, you'll need a plan to tame the beast, and thankfully, the method is quite simple; you'll need to knock it out. While you can use a T-Rex trap to catch one, as described in our guide here, you can also do it on the fly, and we mean literally. The best option is to use a flying tame.
Any flying tame will do, as long as you're out of range of the dino's attacks and can safely land somewhere above the dino, such as a cliff or on a tower you've constructed out of foundations, and then fire your tranquillizers of choice at the T-Rex.
This might take some time due to its high health pool, so just keep at it and aggro the dino towards you every time it tries to wander off, which it can do if you're too high up or another creature catches the T-Rex's attention.
Once unconscious, you simply need to put some of the dinosaur's preferred food into its inventory (any form of raw meat, such as Mutton or Meat, can do the trick, but Kibble works just as well). Once done and the dino's taming bar is full, you will have successfully claimed the T-Rex for yourself.
How Is The T-Rex Used in ARK Survival Ascended?
Now that you know how to locate and tame the T-Rex, let's discuss the uses that this dinosaur offers, of which there are quite a few. First and foremost, this dinosaur is an exceptional tank thanks to its health pool and fast movement speed, and while its attack strength isn't as high as the Giganotosaurus, it's still extremely high, making it a go-to choice as a tanky damage dealer during raids and boss fights.
Then we have the T-Rex's hunting and transport capabilities, with the creature being exceptionally skilled at the former, being able to harvest tons of meat and other resources from carcasses. Regarding the latter, the T-Rex is no slouch as it can traverse over rough terrain, and its good carry weight makes Rexes decent for transporting goods.
Finally, it can also use some special abilities, with the first being its roar that frightens enemies, causing them to defecate and get stunned for a short time. Flyers also get grounded. In addition, the T-Rex has a passive 15% damage buff to all herbivores, making it ideal for taking down some of the larger plant eaters in the game, such as a Bronto.
Generally, the T-Rex is a perfect all-around killing machine with a few uses that extend beyond combat and make it useful in the long run. And now you know exactly how to locate, tame, and use the T-Rex to your advantage in ARK Survival Ascended.
