The transition from Evolved to ARK Survival Ascended has seen many changes in the game (aside from its obvious graphical improvements), and these changes extend to DLCs such as Scorched Earth as well. One aspect is that resources have been moved around the maps to new and harder-to-find locations, and one such resource is Salt.
Salt has limited but important uses in the game, and knowing how to find a decent amount to tide you over as you survive Scorched Earth is vital. So in this guide, we're going to show you exactly how to find salt in the game as well as how it can be used to benefit you in ARK Survival Ascended Scorched Earth.
ARK Survival Ascended Scorched Earth Salt Farming Location And Uses
Before delving into the prime Salt farming locations on Scorched Earth, let's first discuss the uses of salt in the game and how it can benefit you. Salt, or "Raw Salt" in our case, is a natural resource mainly harvested from salt deposits, which manifest in the forms of dinosaur bones as well as salt pillars that naturally spawn in certain locations around the map. All you need to harvest them is a pickaxe or an axe.
Raw Salt itself doesn't have many uses, except as a raw mineral that can be ground into Preserving Salt using a Mortar and Pestle or a Chemistry Bench. It's here where its uses skyrocket. Preserving Salts, when placed into any inventory or container, will double the spoil timers of all perishables in that container (player and tame inventories included).
For instance, Raw Meat spoils after 10 minutes in the player inventory, but when Preserving Salt is added to the inventory, it extends the spoil timer to 20 minutes. Preserving Salt can even be used in combination with Preserving Bins or Fenrir for maximum spoilage time.
The preserving effect only works per one stack of six preserving salts at a time, so having multiple stacks within an inventory will not increase the effect for a longer duration. This means that the maximum time the spoilage is doubled is 2 hours.
When it comes to locating Raw Salt mines around the map, you have two options. The first is the most recommended for early to mid-game players, located at ~25.2 Lat 47.4 Long (as shown in the image above). You'll find it spread around as salt crystals in small caverns on the surface of the ground and pretty much anywhere else in this area.
The second location is a bit more dangerous and isn't recommended for early players, but the Wyvern Scar (the large crack in the earth on the northwest side of the map). The Wyvern Scar contains tons of resources such as Obsidian, Crystals, and of course, salt, making it a goldmine of resources if you can clear the wyverns and survive the trek there. But generally speaking, both locations will work well for all your salt mining needs, allowing you to harvest tons of the stuff to use for all your storage and preserving needs.
This will make your life a lot easier when it comes to preserving food for yourself and your tames during long journeys or when away from the base, and tame more carnivores as you encounter them in the game. So there you have it, a comprehensive look at the best locations to farm salt in ARK Survival Ascended Scorched Earth as well as how it's used to create preserving salts and help you survive for much longer on the Scorched Earth ARK.
