If you've played competitive playlists for long enough, then you've probably been on the receiving end of teabagging in video games. Indeed, it's a familiar ritual for some gamers to instinctively wiggle their avatar's a** over the face of their enemies after winning trade-offs, offering a sense of satisfaction for many.
It is also the peak performative display of domination; in other words, the pièce de résistance of toxicity. However, while teabagging can be a harmless jest among friends, some players can also interpret it as incredibly insulting.
Recently, Apex Legends player Dilly jokingly teabagged his teammate during a live Fate Legion tournament. Following his actions, Dilly and his entire team were disqualified from the competition and banned from joining any future Fate Legion tournaments indefinitely.
Apex Legends Player Dilly Permabanned For Teabagging
Alongside his team, Dilly has been permanently disqualified from all current and future Fate Legion tournaments for teabagging his teammate’s death box. This ruling was made without hesitation during the live stream. In a Twitter thread, Dilly explained that there were no explicit rules regarding toxicity or unsportsmanlike conduct prior to entering the tournament.
We got disqualified from all @FateLegion1 tournaments because I tbagged my TEAMMATES box?! PEOPLE IN ALGS WERE TBAGGING EACH OTHER pic.twitter.com/V4j2e0anhR

Later in the thread, Dilly explained that "making up rules on the spot" was unprofessional. "Disqualifying a whole team permanently from all future tournaments for a made up (sic) is a complete joke," the Apex player said. "Not even a warning or anything, just a permanent ban from all future tournaments."

Many players would argue that Dilly's disqualification is unfair. In this regard, the apparently unprofessional ruling by Fate Legion arguably leaves an irremovable stain on its name, which will most likely dissuade future competitors from joining its events.
Dilly later shared more of his thoughts. Fate Legion was also disqualifying players for shooting bodies as a form of BM. He has yet to respond with any updates.

It’s obviously stirred a lot of debate. Please don’t go send hate, just a discussion. pic.twitter.com/m2d9jY9aFd
Across the industry, esports tournament organizers' (be it ESL, Dreamhack, ALGS, Battlefy, etc.) ruling for events preset the environment. Therefore it's customary that hosts and personnel can’t change these rules once the event has started.
It may be seen as unfair to players for legal, professional (and obvious) reasons and arguably makes the tournament organizer seem less trustworthy. For example, imagine trying to win a game when the conditions to become the champion changed dramatically; it’s just not right.
Of course, teabagging in a professional setting isn’t appropriate; it’s childish and demonstrates lousy sportsmanship. But still, teabagging teammates perhaps doesn't carry the same level of disrespect in esports. And, if teabagging is not acceptable, it should be mentioned in the tournament rules outright.
Fate Legion hasn’t given any public notice or rational reasoning for permanently banning Dilly and his team. However, we will endeavor to update you regarding any further developments.
