Yes, you read that headline correctly. The world is finally getting Puyo Puyo esports, as the game moves out of Japan and into the west.
Puyo Puyo Champions is due to be released on May 7, 2019, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. In Japan, the game is named Puyo Puyo eSports.
The presentation of Puyo Puyo Champions is similar to that of Puyo Puyo Tetris, but without the Tetris elements. There are 24 playable characters, dual audio options, a tournament mode for eight players, online multiplayer, and the Puyo Puyo Tsu and Puyo Puyo Fever rule sets. Solo mode is also an option for players looking to play by themselves.
Is this up there with one of the weirdest games you’ve seen push into esports? It certainly is for us.
