A month following the Early Access launch of the co-op action RPG Towerborne in September 2024, the first major update found its way to PC via Steam this month. Titled the Duskveil update, developer Stoic introduced several balance changes, optimizations, and gameplay adjustments and may have added a few spooky surprises in store.
The developer detailed these new changes and content additions in the official patch notes via the game's Steam page, citing that the Duskveil update is not just "a seasonal shift—with loads of spooky new gear — but also a fresh wave of enhancements to enrich your adventure." The team at Stoic is "thrilled to deliver" on their 'promise of regular content" that has been added to Towerborne; it comes as "a mysterious time has crept over the Belfry, creating a rather "chillingly delightful atmosphere" that makes see unwanted visitors seeping into their world.
The Duskveil update welcomes a few additions to Towerborne, including replayable Discovery Missions, where players can replay "randomized missions" in each biome to "play discovery missions" for more danger levels to be unlocked. As detailed in the patch notes, "While these missions won’t award Writs or unlock new areas, they offer variety and a fresh challenge until new content arrives."
With the addition of replayable Discover Missions, several adjustments for missions and exploration were included in the update, like increased Venture Quests, new Healing Shrines, changes to the Sten Umbra Shrine puzzles, and more. The developer also addressed player concerns regarding a specific character class, the Sentinel, of which most combat balance changes are primarily attributed to the class, with "additional tweaks" to arrive in the future.
The update rolled further improvements to the game's UI/UX and art design, improving players' gameplay experiences and "refined visual elements" to ensure players' visual encounters are "as crisp as possible." Likewise, new changes have also impacted several enemies, and the developer stated that these implementations are intended "to smooth out some rough edges with specific enemies or mechanics."
Lastly, as it is October, which can mean Halloween has arrived in the Belfry, new themed content has found its way to Towerborne in the Duskveil update. New "gobo-ween goodies" have found their way to the Belfry, which players can get their hands on before some ghoulish fiend drags them away, including the new Monthly Bonus items, new gear sets, weapon skins, emotes, stickers, Umbra skins, and more.
