It's been ten years since developer 11 bit studios launched their survival simulation game This War of Mine for consoles, mobile devices, and PCs. The game gained widespread universal acclaim for its gripping narrative and tactical survival gameplay mechanics, for which its developer continued to provide much support and love following its release.
Its tenth anniversary was acknowledged in November 2024, and the developer announced a new DLC available on consoles and PCs to honor this monumental moment. The Forget Celebrations DLC was released across all available platforms on 11th December 2024 as proceeds of DLC sales went towards selected charities as players returned to a sobering yet familiar location in a new story.
The Forget Celebrations DLC is the latest expansion for This War of Mine, which, according to the developer, the game's mission "to shed light on the civilian cost of war is far from over." Not only did it arrive following the game's tenth anniversary, but it was a recipient of the Special Recognition Award by Amnesty International, which they're celebrating these achievements the right way with a new story and more unique items while supporting their charity partners to assist people in need.
The new story follows a war correspondent attempting to document the tragedies civilians have experienced in the "besieged city of Pogoren." Unfortunately, she experiences a missile attack that affects her home, which she now must survive while being injured as she awaits a rescue party to find her amidst the "war-torn city."
The base game of This War of Mine follows the stories of a civilian group attempting to survive their dire yet brutal environments of a "besieged city" as their daily struggles of finding necessities like food, shelter, water, and medicine while living under "constant danger from snipers and hostile scavengers." Unlike what we've experienced in similar games, these stories are hauntingly documented from unique perspectives, and with subsequent DLC releases adding new voices and perspectives, players make the difficult "life-and-death decisions" during times of conflict, which alters the lives of many.
