- PlatinumGames has launched a Kickstarter campaign for The Wonderful 101: Remastered
- The game is one of the last few Wii U titles yet to be ported to Switch
- The developer earned their three stretch goals within hours
The Wonderful 101 is one of the last few Wii U exclusives yet to make it over to Nintendo Switch, although that’s all been changed via a Kickstarter campaign.
After teasing four announcements on their website, PlatinumGames revealed a kickstarter for The Wonderful 101: Remastered - with a first goal for a Switch release at $50,000.
The goal was reached within 30 minutes of the page going live, with the $250,000 goal for a Steam release hit within the hour.
The $500,000 goal for a PlayStation 4 version was achieved two hours after going live, with a Time Attack mode and new adventure Luka's First Mission now available if new higher goals are reached.
There’s also a bunch of rewards for Kickstarter backers, including t-shirts, soundtracks, jewellery, and, incredibly, the chance to be blocked by game director Hideki Kamiya on Twitter.
You might be wondering why PlatinumGames, creators of Bayonetta, Astral Chain and Vanquish, would need financial backing for a port. The Wonderful 101 on Wii U was published by Nintendo in 2013, who won’t be involved this time around.
Without their backing, PlatinumGames are self-publishing the title themselves - something they’re looking to pursue in future.
In an FAQ on their campaign page, the developer wrote: “Although PlatinumGames has been able to grow over the years thanks to the players and our fans, we still haven’t been able to fully realise our long-time dream of self-publishing our own IPs.
Wow! Tremendous thanks to the over 13,000 Kickstarter backers who've pledged over 100 million yen to The Wonderful 101: Remastered! Watch us celebrate the moment. #ALLFOR101 #Platinum4 pic.twitter.com/CBIpjm4mxH

“With your support, we hope not only to bring The Wonderful 101 to a wider audience on a variety of platforms, but also to add some content that will enhance the experience even more! This campaign is your chance to empower us to pursue self-publishing and take our destinies into our own hands.”
If you’re unfamiliar, The Wonderful 101 is an action-adventure title where you control a horde of superheroes who can ‘Unite Morph’ into various objects, including a gun, whip, sword and more.
According to their campaign page, The Wonderful 101: Remastered will be released on Nintendo Switch, Steam and PlayStation 4 in April 2020.
