Developer Free Range Games has officially confirmed the release date for the survival crafting game The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. The game, which is coming to PC via Steam and Xbox Series X|S consoles this August, will be discounted at launch; however, it will be for a limited time.
The survival crafting game launched on PC via the Epic Games Store in October 2023 before it made its way to PlayStation 5 consoles in December of that year. The developer also confirmed a few additional details for the survival crafting game's launch, including new gameplay features, balance changes, and more.
According to an official press release, the survival crafting game launches on 27th August 2024 and can be acquired from the Xbox Store and Steam "at a discounted price of $19.99 for a limited time." As outlined in the aforementioned press release, new content will be included to commemorate the game's new platform releases, alongside its Steam and Xbox Series X|S launch.
Launching on 27th August 2024, with the game's Steam and Xbox Series X|S release, a brand new content update, The Golden Update, will become available, adding new content and key features. This update brings cross-platform play (crossplay) to The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, enabling players to play with their friends online, regardless of which platforms they're playing on.
Players across all platforms can now create and join lobbies with their friends, whereas Steam players can create eight-player lobbies for their online friends to join. The game will also add a new gameplay mode, Sandbox Mode, previously available on its other platforms, thus encouraging players "to experience independent exploration and experimentation throughout the mountain."
This mode is randomly generated using a range of seeds, making each playthrough unique and different based on its layout and gameplay difficulty. The developer also detailed that the Golden Update will include new building parts, decorations, armor, and weapons, the latter of which can be discovered in Sandbox Mode but are transferrable into its Campaign Mode, as long as they're equipped to their Dwalf.
Some new gameplay imporvements and optimizations will be coming to the survival crafting game for buildings thanks to changes made to the game's stability system. This makes snapping items and building structures more responsive, and "miscellaneous buildings" will be more robust to expand their bases further.
Explore the mines of Moira with new Ambient Music, a highly requested feature from its community, and this new soundtrack will "accompany the Dwarves' ventures" into the mountain. Players will finally be able to toggle the game's difficulty with new settings features in this update, which they can "fine-tune" various gameplay aspects like combat, enemy aggression, horde, and mining drops, to name a few.
