Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic is arguably considered the greatest Star Wars video game tie-in ever made, establishing developer BioWare’s previously sky-high reputation.
While a remake has been rumoured for years, the IP faced a significant setback when the new Star Wars trilogy by Disney scrubbed its existence from canon. A reference to KOTOR’s main villain “Revan” in Rise Of Skywalker, however, gave hope they were perhaps seeding its return.
According to Cinelinx, who previously correctly claimed Ewan McGregor was returning for an Obi Wan Kenobi series, a new Knights Of The Old Republic game is back in development after it was previously put on hold in 2016.
They also claim the new title isn’t so much a remake but a sequel “of sorts” - which would integrate elements from the first two titles and act as a “re-imagining” to align the series into Star Wars canon.

Interestingly, the report claims numerous other Star Wars titles are in the works, including a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order (unsurprisingly), the already rumoured Project Luminous title, and an unannounced Nintendo Switch title.
As always, it’s important to take these claims with a pinch of salt, although it certainly seems possible – especially now the new movie trilogy is out the way and after EA’s success with Jedi: Fallen Order.
It also makes sense as a "re-imagining" of sorts as it's been over a decade since the last game released.
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, released in 2003, was an RPG title on PC and Xbox set 4,000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire.
A sequel was released in 2004 by developer Obsidian, which wasn’t quite as well received as BioWare's original.
If you want to try out Knights Of The Old Republic today, both titles are available to play on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.
