Sabotage Studio has had an impressive year leading up to the release of their recent game, Sea of Stars, which arrived on console and PC in August 2023. Following its release, the game mainly garnered positive reviews, including GINX, and was selected in the “Best of 2023 selections” across multiple publications as the year drew to a close.
This all culminated as the turn-based RPG secured the Best Indie Game award at The Game Awards and the Golden Joysticks to cap off what has been a phenomenal year for the studio. Now, the developer has achieved another monumental milestone as it crossed the four-million player threshold, as announced on social media.
According to a press release from the Canadian-based studio, the team thanked the players for their continuous support following its release, which was noted to be a massive year for the RPG genre. Sabotage Studio co-founder Thierry Boulanger stated that developing Sea of Stars was the “game of [his] dreams, and seeing its quest resonate so strongly with players and critics means the world to everyone at Sabotage.”
Boulanger also thanked his colleagues and everyone who had worked on the development of Sea of Stars, adding that "the team behind this game is the most talented and dedicated group I could have ever hoped to create Sea of Stars with, and I’m again reminded of their brilliance as we progress with creating Sea of Stars’ upcoming DLC, Throes of the Watchmaker.” The confirmation of the DLC was announced during Boulanger’s interview with Radio Canada (via Kakuchopurei) following the game’s release; however, no release date has been announced as of writing.
This will see part of the development team continuing work on the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC while the rest are working on the studio’s next IP. This was evident as Boulanger concluded that everyone at Sabotage Studio cannot wait “to show you what’s next for Sea of Stars” as we await more news and updates on the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC for Sea of Stars.
The award-winning turn-based RPG Sea of Stars is now available for PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. The Throes of the Watchmaker DLC has yet to confirm its release date.
