The iconic 2000 SEGA Dreamcast title Rainbow Cotton is back almost a quarter of a decade later in 2024, with a global HD remaster on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4/5, and Xbox releasing on 9th May 2024. The new release from ININ brings back everything fans loved about the original, as well as introduces some fresh features for a modern take on the title. Rainbow Cotton is the 5th release in the iconic Cotton franchise.
In the new HD re-release of Rainbow Cotton, players will be able to turn on or off Retro Mode for a truly authentic experience, as well as check out Cotton's brand new look. Also new to this version of the game is a local co-op mode, allowing one player to take on the role of Cotton while another plays as Silk. The game's fully-animated anime cutscenes will also be available with Japanese Dubs, as well as newly-translated English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish dubs.
Rainbow Cotton's developers describe it as a "3D rail shooter" in which players take on the role of the young witch Cotton and her fairy friend, Silk. The two must confront and fight the demon Tweed in order to retrieve the Legendary Willow, a valuable artifact in the land of York Country. The new remaster of Rainbow Cotton will retail for $19.99.
It's worth noting that this release of Rainbow Cotton is indeed a remaster and not a remake. While remakes tend to add lots of new features and completely reimagine an original title, remasters tend to just update the graphics and add new quality-of-life updates.
