After crowdfunding for The Wonderful 101 Remastered, developer PlatinumGames has revealed new game Project G.G.
From Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya, the working titled Project G.G. is described as a “heroic” title – although no specifics about gameplay or story have been revealed.
A teaser trailer, however, shows an adorable dog caught amid a city in panic as two giant, towering mechs look set for a brawl – in the vein of Godzilla or Pacific Rim.
The trailer also describes it as the final instalment in Kamiya’s “hero” trilogy, which is presumably following Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101.
It’s notable title as it marks the first title PlatinumGames will entirely fund and develop themselves, without any outside intrusion from publishers.
In a letter alongside the announcement, Kamiya added: “As a creator, it’s hard not to think of my games as my children. After all, it takes a lot of hard work to raise them up, and a lot of love, too. However once they’re done, any choices about them are entirely out of my hands.
“Project G.G. is different. Unlike any of the games we’ve made so far, it’s going to be a 100% PlatinumGames title. For everything from its setting and characters, to its game design and story, to how it’s promoted – PlatinumGames is in full control.”
The title is a long way off, with no announcement regarding platforms, but it still looks enormously promising – especially as it’s essentially a next-gen title.
